Suicide Blast Hits Train in Pakistan, Causing Heavy Casualties
The attack reportedly occurred in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, where a suspected lone attacker drove an explosives-laden vehicle into a train carrying military personnel as it traveled along a railway line toward the city’s cantonment area.
The explosion was described as extremely powerful, with officials saying it could be heard several kilometers away. Nearby homes and vehicles also sustained damage due to the blast.
Balochistan Liberation Army later claimed responsibility, saying in a statement that it had carried out a suicide attack targeting military personnel.
Following the explosion, heavy gunfire was also reported in the area, while authorities declared an emergency in several hospitals in Quetta as rescue and medical teams responded.
Babar Yousafzai said security forces and emergency teams arrived at the scene quickly as investigations were launched to determine the full circumstances of the attack.
